Research shows running a franchise may not be all it's cracked up to be.
A recent study by Massey University shows a large number of franchisees feel their experience of franchising didn't live up to expectation.
Report author Dr Susan Flinte-Hartle says over a quarter have experienced conflict with their franchiser at one time or another.
She says franchisers had a more positive take, reporting a low incidence of conflict with franchisees being, on the whole, very happy.
Dr Flinte-Hartle says of those in a dispute, nearly 40 percent said the conflict was never resolved, and 28 percent viewed their resolution as unsatisfactory.
