A doubly tough day for employees at an Auckland cinema.
As well as having their last day today, workers at Auckland's Highland Park Event Cinema will also be protesting what they call an unfair redundancy offer.
They've been offered two weeks' pay and some movie tickets.
Highland Park Event Cinema duty manager Lorna McNamara says the redundancy offer has come well short of what she'd hoped for.
She would have liked to have seen at least a month, and potentially some extra for long service too.
But an employment lawyer says all employers have to do is give between one week and four weeks' notice of redundancy.
Maria Berryman says there are no rules surrounding minimum pay outs to employees.
She says there's no legislative obligation to pay any redundancy pay on top of that.
Staff will be protesting at Event Cinema's corporate headquarters from 3pm this afternoon.
