The same day Auckland Council is asking for feedback on bringing in high-rise buildings to the suburbs, one project has been shown the red card.
A proposal for high-rise apartments on top of Milford Mall has been declined by a hearings panel, appointed by the Auckland Council.
General manager of mall owner New Zealand Retail Property Group, Campbell Barbour, says the panel cited significant opposition to the proposal from residents.
" primarily focused on the height of the buildings, and the extent to which the buildings were in keeping with the character of Milford, which they wish to preserve."
Campbell Barbour says they can see the irony in the fact that Auckland Council is now considering high rise buildings in the suburbs.
