    Students upset over scrapped allowances

Distraught students have been contacting Deputy Labour leader Grant Robertson after finding out they no longer qualify for allowances.

The Government's scrapped allowances for post-graduate students.

Mr Robertson says he's had a number of very upset people contacting him as they discover the policy change.

And he's particularly concerned for those students who are half-way through their studies and will now either drop out or struggle to find a way to fund their higher learning.

"If Steven Joyce wanted to at least get a scrap of fairness out of this situation he would support people who were part way through their courses to finish them. So if someone was one year into a two year Masters course, they should be given an allowance to complete the second year."
