Mass Toyota recall to affect 2000 NZ vehicles

Toyota New Zealand's recalling nearly 2000 vehicles with a steering defect.

The recall affects Avensis models from 2002 to 2008, Corolla models from 2000 to 2007, and Prius models made between 2003 and 2009.

An unspecified number of vehicles sold as used imports may also be involved.

Toyota says an abnormal noise or rattle may be heard if the shaft engagement has loosened.

It's recalling 2.7 million vehicles worldwide.
