Alphabet’s Google Shows Fake News Can’t Win
In October, executives from Alphabet (GOOGL), Facebook (FB), and Twitter (TWTR) appeared before the Senate judiciary committee to answer questions relating to Russia’s meddling in US (SPY) politics in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election. When he spoke at a Credit Suisse conference roughly a month after Google’s questioning by the Senate committee, the company’s chief business officer, Philipp Schindler, revisited the election meddling issue and other challenges such as fake news that social media companies have been grappling with recently. The message that Schindler tried to get out was that the company is taking measures to ensure the safety and security of its platforms and guarantee the best experience for users and advertisers.
