Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Tuesday he has not decided whether to bring forward the name of the next central bank chief or announce it closer to the end of the year, when central bank governor Roberto Campos Neto's term ends. Talking to journalists in Brasilia, Lula again questioned Campos Neto's performance and called for lower interest rates. Lula said, however, he has "no problem" with Campos Neto staying in the role until his term ends in December.

UnitedHealth says files with personal information that could cover a “substantial portion of people in America” may have been taken in the cyberattack earlier this year on its Change Healthcare business. UnitedHealth did say that some screen shots containing protected health information or personally identifiable information were posted for about a week online on the dark web, which standard browsers can’t access. United Parcel Service (UPS) posted its first-quarter earnings to mixed results with adjusted earnings per share at $1.43 against an estimated $1.30, but revenue came under estimations with $21.71 billion against an expected $21.83 billion. The company also reported a 3.2% decline in average daily volumes in its domestic business and a 5.8% drop in its international segment, signaling a softening of demand in deliveries. We know that the earnings were really hit as they signed a new Teamster employment contract this year. You've got really tough comps because of that on the cost side where employment costs are up 13% year-over-year. You have this huge tough comp until we anniversary that over the summer. So then you're going to have almost a flattish labor cost from that point forward. It really becomes you need that operating leverage of getting volumes into this fixed cost network that you can get some of that leverage. I think that's why you're seeing the focus on where volumes are for this stock in particular because that's really what's going to drive future earnings, is if you can see top-line growth." The new version called Phi-3-mini is the first of the three small language models (SLM) to be released by the company, as it stakes its future on a technology that is expected to have a wide-ranging impact on the world and the way people work. "Phi-3 is not slightly cheaper, it's dramatically cheaper, we're talking about a 10x cost difference compared to the other models out there with similar capabilities," said Sébastien Bubeck, Microsoft's vice president of GenAI research.

Chilean telecommunications firm Entel plans to invest $618 million this year, the company said on Tuesday, slightly above its 2023 spending. The funds will go primarily toward Entel's mobile and home divisions, the firm in a statement.
