ASX opens lower after US tariff reports

The ASX has closed lower after fresh US tariffs on Chinese goods raised stakes in their trade war

Australian shares have opened lower after renewed reports of imminent US tariffs checked the momentum of a strong Wall Street close.

The benchmark S&P/ASX200 was 17 points, or 0.27 per cent, lower at 6,241.1 points at 1015 AEST on Wednesday, while the broader All Ordinaries index was 15.4 points, or 0.24 points, lower at 6,327.4.

In futures trading, the SPI200 futures contract was down 17 points, or 0.27 per cent, at 6,194 points.
