If you’re about to leave school and are interested in a career in the public service, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has entry-level jobs open with salaries starting at $51,000.

The jobs are open to 2021 and 2022 school leavers in several locations, including some regional areas.

Successful applicants would enter the year-long school leaver program that combines work experience and formal training.

School leavers would get on-the-job training, as well as a permanent, full-time job once they completed the 12-month program.

The jobs would begin in February 2023 and would include a variety of roles, such as administration, client engagement, data and analytics, and information technology.

New recruits would start on an APS 1 salary of $50,977 plus super, with the opportunity to advance to an APS 2 salary upon the completion of the program, starting at $55,652.

“The ATO is a big organisation with so many interesting potential career paths,” ATO assistant commissioner Kristy Dam said.

“If you’re not sure where your career may be heading or you’re not currently planning to go to uni, the ATO is a great option,” she said.

“We’re a diverse organisation where you can make big things happen.”

There are spots on the program open in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney, Traralgon, Gosford and Newcastle.

To be eligible for the program, applicants must have completed Year 12 in 2021 or would complete Year 12 in 2022.

They must also be an Australian citizen, and clear a pre-engagement integrity check.

Applications for the program open August 8, 2022 and close on September 5, 2022.
