Ava DuVernay Just Made History By Becoming The First Black Woman To Be On A Ben & Jerry's Pint
Director Ava DuVernay has reached many milestones in her career, but she may have just achieved the tastiest one yet thanks to a new collaboration with Ben & Jerry's. DuVernay has partnered with the brand on a new ice cream called Lights! Caramel! Action! In addition to it sounding absolutely divine, it's the first Ben & Jerry's flavor to ever feature a Black woman on the pint.
Heavy on the caramel, DuVernay's flavor has a vanilla ice cream base with salted caramel swirls, graham cracker swirls, and gobs of chocolate chip cookie dough.
For the award-winning director, ice cream is a beloved comfort food.
"Ice cream is a simple joy of life. A comfort food that I've turned to on many days—making sunny ones brighter and dark ones sweeter," said DuVernay in a statement. "Partnering with Ben & Jerry's, a company that I've long admired for their commitment to social justice, has been a thrill ride. I had the opportunity to work with food scientists to create a flavor with all the ingredients that I personally love for a cause close to my heart."
Proceeds from Lights! Caramel! Action! will help ARRAY Alliance, a woman-led nonprofit organization that "works to advance social justice through art."
Thankfully, anyone eager to get their hands on a pint of Lights! Caramel! Action! doesn't have to rush to the store before it leaves. The flavor is a full-time addition to Ben & Jerry's line-up, so you have plenty of time to pick up a pint.
