Carole Baskin Is Suing Netflix Over Tiger King 2 (And Let's Just Say It's Very Dramatic)

Carole Baskin - star of season one of Tiger King and arch enemy of Joe Exotic - is suing Netflix for a breach of contract, which could cause massive problems for the streaming giant.

Baskin has been vocal about her disapproval of Tiger King and the way she was portrayed in the first season. Earlier this year, it was revealed she and her husband Howard had refused to have any involvement with the upcoming episodes.

Speaking to RadioTimes.com, Baskin said in February: ‘It was just a few weeks ago that Rebecca Chaiklin had reached out asking if we could clear the air.

‘I have been speaking about how we had been so misled into thinking this was going to be the Blackfish for big cats and then it turned out to be the freak show that they produced.

‘So when she said she wanted to clear the air, I felt like, you know, that’s just absolutely ridiculous. It was so obvious that I had been betrayed by them.

‘Why would she ever think that I would be willing to speak to them again? And so I told her to just lose my number.’

Now, Baskin and Howard have filed a lawsuit against Netflix for featuring them in the trailer for the second series, which they argue is a breach of contract. They have asked that all footage of them be dropped from the upcoming series.

'By utilizing the film footage of the Baskins and Big Cat Rescue secured by Royal Goode Productions under the Appearance Releases in ‘sizzle reels’ and promotional trailers for the sequel entitled Tiger King 2, the Defendants are in breach of the terms of the Appearance Releases,' the lawsuit states.

Legal papers also say: 'The Tiger King 1 series wrongly attempted to suggest that Big Cat Rescue abused its animals by keeping them in very small cages while not making clear that the animals actually reside in expansive enclosures.'

Baskin also claims the first series implicated in her in the death of her ex-husband, Don Lewis, who disappeared in 1997.

Earlier this year, Netflix announced that a second season of blockbuster hit Tiger King will be dropping soon.

The global phenomenon attracted 64 million households in the first four weeks after its March 2020 premiere, but there’s some controversy surrounding its return.

‘Tiger King is coming back this year — and season [two] promises just as much mayhem and madness as Season 1! [sic]’ read a Tweet on Netflix’s official Twitter account.

So what do we know about season two so far?

Here's everything you need to know about Tiger King season two, from the cast and release date to its trailer:

When will Tiger King 2 air?

The series is hitting our screens sooner than we thought. Netflix has announced Tiger King 2 will be available to view on Netflix on November 17.

'We’ve only scratched the surface...,' Netflix captioned its YouTube video announcing the release date. 'The global hit Tiger King will return to Netflix for more madness and mayhem on November 17, 2021'

What's in the Tiger King 2 trailer?

Yes. On October 27 Netflix released the season's trailer and let's just say it's going to be one hell of a ride. You can view the trailer at the top of this article.

From the looks of the official trailer, Joe Exotic will make an appearance in the show, albeit from prison given he's currently serving a 22-year sentence. In the trailer it seems Exotic wants to know 'the truth' behind everything that's happened, while some of his former co-stars and former colleagues appear to have made quite a substantial amount of money from the first season of the show.

There seem to be many questions regarding Exotic's sentence, Carole Baskin's ex husband Don Lewis' disappearance and much more.

In September Netflix released a mini trailer ahead of the season's release, which you can watch on YouTube below:

Who is making Tiger King 2?

Directors Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin are returning for the second instalment, as well as executive producers Chris Smith and Fisher Stevens. Good and Chaiklin will also serve as executive producers.

What happened to Tiger King's Joe Exotic?

Season one followed the wild world of cat breeding and the feud between zookeeper Joey Exotic (real name Joe Maldonado-Passage) and big cat conservationist Carole, owner of Big Cat Rescue.

The season ended with Exotic’s arrest and imprisonment for a murder-for-hire plot (of Baskin) and animal abuse.

It’s unclear when in the timeline of events the second season will pick up, but a teaser from Netflix shows clips of Baskin, Jeff Lowe and Exotic phoning in from jail.

It seems Exotic is desperately trying all avenues to get an early release from prison after being sentenced to 22 years in 2020.

It certainly seems there’s more of the story to tell…
