Netflix's Inventing Anna has a new trailer, and it's just as dramatic as the real-life story

The Netflix show based on the story of fake German heiress turned media sensation Anna Delvey is starting to sound a lot like our next TV obsession.

Inventing Anna is the story of Anna Delvey - real name Anna Sorokin - who managed to trick some of New York's wealthiest socialites into believing she was a billionaire heiress. Pretending she had access to a $60 million trust fund, she managed to hire a private jet, went to the most exclusive parties and lived out of a luxury New York hotel. In reality, Anna had no trust fund and she was eventually caught out over her tangled web of lies.

Creator of Grey's Anatomy, Scandal and Bridgerton, Shonda Rhimes, is responsible for writing the project. Here's what else you need to know about Inventing Anna.

We've also just got some brand new shiny behind the scenes pics of the project, including our first look at a scene with Anna (Garner) and Neff (Floyd), the friend and hotel receptionist who was a big part of the exposé about the fake heiress. As well as more pictures of Garner in full costume, with bright red hair and a vivid purple suit.

What's Inventing Anna about?

The 10-part series is based on a New York Times article titled 'How Anna Delvey Tricked New York's Party People' by journalist Jessica Pressler. Netflix says: "In Inventing Anna, a journalist (Chlumsky) with a lot to prove investigates the case of Anna Delvey (Garner), the Instagram-legendary German heiress who stole the hearts of New York’s social scene — and stole their money as well."

Where is Anna now?

In May 2020, Anna was sentenced to a minimum of four years in prison following a month-long trial. According to Buzzfeed News, at her sentencing the judge said she was "stunned by the depth of the defendant’s deception" and that Anna had been "blinded by the glitter and glamour of New York City".
