The Auckland Chamber of Commerce says the city has missed out to Adelaide after an announcement the Australian casino is set to undergo a major transformation.
SkyCity is investing around $375 million to turn its Adelaide Casino into a world-class integrated entertainment complex.
But back here, the casino's pokies-for-convention centre deal with the government is looking increasingly shaky.
Chamber head Michael Barnett says Adelaide has made a decision which we should have made months ago.
He says New Zealand must get its act together, as every week it's not built equates to a loss of millions of dollars of income to the city, and flow-on benefits to regional economies.
Michael Barnett says delaying the decision leaves Auckland lagging behind other cities they're competing against from international conferences and top-spending tourists.
