Chevron (CVX) Gains But Lags Market: What You Should Know

Chevron (CVX) closed at $127.18 in the latest trading session, marking a +0.21% move from the prior day. This change lagged the S&P 500's 0.28% gain on the day. At the same time, the Dow added 0.29%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 0.19%.

Heading into today, shares of the oil company had gained 9.02% over the past month, outpacing the Oils-Energy sector's gain of 9% and the S&P 500's loss of 5.39% in that time.

Chevron will be looking to display strength as it nears its next earnings release, which is expected to be January 28, 2022. The company is expected to report EPS of $3.07, up 30800% from the prior-year quarter.
