Distractions at work could be costing companies millions of dollars a year.
A survey done by Australian researchers Kate Boorer and Dr Lucia Kelleher has found nearly half of people are unproductive for five or more hours a week.
That is due to distractions like emails and phone calls, information overload, stress, being brain dead or fed up or complaining to colleagues.
Kate Boorer says they worked out the cost to a company with 150 employees and salary outgoings of $12 million.
"That quantified out at, and calculated at 1.3 million dollars, so that's about an 11 per cent reflection of the salary costs."
