Yahoo Finance Dolce & Gabbana Wants To Send You 'Out Out' In Bra Tops And Honestly, We're Here For It
Dolce & Gabbana's 'DG Light' SS22 runway show in Milan was an exercise in giving us all the things we've been gagging for after a year of on-and-off lockdown.
For some, the dearth of fashion has fuelled a desire for boundary-breaking, avant-garde design, but for others, the shackles of home-working and homeschooling has us lusting for something more wanton. So long spent in joggers and unwashed tees has sparked a yearning for the Patsy and Eddie frequency - exaggerated, fun-fashion that celebrates just having a really excellent time.
And this, DG Light delivered in spades. By their own word, the collection that made its way down the runway on September 25, is a 'reinterpretation of the aesthetic codes of the 2000s' and the references certainly aren't subtle. Skirts the length of wide belts complete with giant embellished buckles, gold lamé skinny trousers, low-slung cargo pants styled with a D&G monogram chain, underwear peeking up over waistlines...
Forget underwear as outerwear in the form of slip dresses and bralets over shirts, Dolce & Gabbana want you to throw off the manacles of outerwear altogether and head out on the town in your lingerie. We've effectively been closeted for 18 months, so the rebellion is now to take it all off, clearly.
Throughout the collection, the show's 'light' theme came into play via reflective embellishments, from all-over sequins and shiny jacquard, to gemstone-studded purple jeans.
Though the noughties were the predominant reference, a couple of other decades snuck a little wave in there too. The 60s got a look in, in the form of a mini shift dress with matching go-go boots. The 80s popped up in a slashed-neck, tie-dye Jennifer Lopez tee and also in a couple of giant ruffled shirt shoulders.
All in all it was the bedazzling, diverting show that we all deserved. Sombre blacks and blues have their perennial place in our work wardrobes, especially now that we're shuffling back to the office, but in the immediate aftermath of a long time stuck inside, we want the kind of dazzling, jaws-to-the-floor party looks that D&G is offering.
