Israel to build supercomputer to keep pace in global AI race
Israel next month will launch a tender to establish the country's first supercomputer to ensure the country remains a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, the chief executive of the state-backed Israel Innovation Authority said on Wednesday. Speaking at an AI conference, Dror Bin said that while AI has been a friend for Israel's tech sector, it could turn into a foe without action given AI is a fast evolving technology. Tech accounts for 20% of Israel's economic output and the country is widely regarded as one of the largest tech centres in the world.

Parcel and freight delivery company FedEx (FDX) reported a fiscal fourth-quarter earnings beat on Tuesday, posting in-line revenue of $21.1 billion and adjusted earnings of $5.41 per share (expected $5.34 per share). FedEx's stock is moving higher in pre-market trading — and into Wednesday's regular session — off of its full-year 2025 guidance and announcing a $2.5 billion share buyback plan. Japan's top currency diplomat Masato Kanda said that authorities are "seriously concerned and on high alert" about the yen's rapid decline, escalating warnings as the Japanese currency languished at its weakest level in almost forty years. "It is generally accepted that the current weakness in the yen is not necessarily justified, therefore believed to be driven by speculators," Kanda, the vice finance minister for international affairs, told reporters on Wednesday.
