Final stage of the Poynton now underway

The Poynton, Metlifecare’s $130 million retirement village in Takapuna, is heading for completion with construction of the fourth and final stage now underway.

Stage 4 will see a further 58 one, two and three-bedroom apartments being built. The new apartments will follow similar design cues as the existing buildings, with some top floor apartments offering views over to Rangitoto, towards Lake Pupuke or back towards Glenfield and the Waitakere ranges.

Following completion in June 2015, The Poynton, one of New Zealand’s premium retirement villages, will offer 257 apartments, with first class facilities including a heated indoor swimming pool, bowling green, croquet lawn, restaurant and café, a wellness centre, snooker room, large activities room, arts and crafts room and a blokes’ shed.

Stage 1 and 2 independent apartments are close to 100% occupied with significant interest in stage 3, which is due to be completed next month. Construction firm Haydn & Rollett has been appointed to continue their involvement and complete the final stage.

The development is part of Metlifecare’s targeted build rate of 200+ units per year from FY15. In recent months the company has also commenced earthworks for its $160 million Greenwich Gardens village in Unsworth Heights (North Shore) and has commenced construction of The Orchards village in Glenfield.

CEO of Metlifecare, Alan Edwards, said: "Auckland’s North Shore is a high growth market for our company, with an increasing number of people seeking quality retirement living options in the area. The Poynton is a stand-out village and we look forward to welcoming new residents as we complete the final two stages".

Metlifecare is one of New Zealand’s leading retirement village and aged care providers operating 23 retirement villages in prime locations throughout the North Island.
