Free carrots for eager Queenslanders

A carrot farm southwest of Brisbane has opened its doors and wants people to come and pick vegetables that may otherwise be wasted due to a surplus.

The "Carrotastrophe" day kicks off at Kalfresh's Kalbar farm on Saturday morning.

"Visit the farm, sit in the tractors, meet the farmers and get muddy picking your own carrots," Kalfresh's website said.

The national carrot market is oversupplied due to the combination of trading restrictions and optimum growing conditions, Kalfresh's Alice Gorman told the ABC in September.
