CHICAGO (AP) _ Groupon Inc. (GRPN) on Wednesday reported third-quarter earnings of $44.6 million.

The Chicago-based company said it had net income of 8 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 4 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 3 cents per share.

The online daily deal service posted revenue of $592.9 million in the period, which missed Street forecasts. Nine analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $602.8 million.

The company's shares closed at $3.26. A year ago, they were trading at $5.48.
