Despite Hailey and Justin Bieber having been married for four years now (and recently posting some adorable wedding anniversary tributes to one another), some hardcore Jelena stans still aren't keen to let the singer's previous relationship, with Selena Gomez, go. So much so, that Hailey has now spoken out on a new podcast about persistent rumours that she 'stole' Justin from his ex-partner (although quick side note: people cannot be 'stolen' from a relationship... they can either leave on their own accord, or not).

This is thought to be the first time that Hailey has commented directly on whether or not there was an overlap between her relationship with Justin starting, and his relationship with Selena ending (whom he dated on and off for around seven years, with the pair last being linked in November 2017). Previously though, Hailey did post a TikTok video seemingly in response to Selena fan trolls, asking them to "leave her alone... it's been long enough".

Hailey and Justin tied the knot in October 2018, following his proposal a few months prior in July, meaning there was ample time for the pair to have met and fallen in love after his split from Selena. Yet, rumours have long dogged the couple – until now.

In a new episode of Alex Cooper's podcast, Call Her Daddy, which has previously hosted the likes of Jamie Lynn Spears and Julia Fox, Alex asks Hailey directly, "Why do you think people were so angry [when your engagement was announced]?" And, in response, Hailey replies that as well as the fact she and Justin were both young, that there seems to be some confusion over the timeline of their getting together.

"Perception is a really tricky thing, when you're watching something from the outside you can see it one way when it may not really be the reality of what happened behind closed doors," she then explains. "I know how we got to where we got to, I was there, I was living it every day."

Alex then asks, "Your husband was in a very public relationship, they were kids, people were obsessed with the idea of them and people were confused on the timeline you're talking about, like 'is she a home wrecker'... I guess my question is Hailey, were you ever with Justin romantically at the same time as her?"

To this, Hailey firmly says: "No, not one time. When him and I started hanging out... hooking up or anything of that sort, he was not ever in a relationship at any point. It's not my character to mess with someone's relationship, I was raised better than that. I'm not interested in doing that and I never was. Period point blank, I was never with him when he was in a relationship with anybody, that's the end of it. I had been involved with him since I was eighteen.

"This is so crazy I've literally never talked about this ever [...] As a woman I would never want to get into a relationship with someone, get engaged to them, and think in the back of my mind 'I wonder if that was really closed for you' and I know for a fact that the reason we were able to get back together is because it was very much completely closed, and that was respectful for me."

Thanks for clearing things up, Hails.
