BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ Hibbett Sports Inc. (HIBB) on Tuesday reported fiscal third-quarter net income of $1.5 million.

The Birmingham, Alabama-based company said it had net income of 8 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for costs related to mergers and acquisitions, were 14 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 19 cents per share.

The sporting goods retailer posted revenue of $216.9 million in the period, surpassing Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $216.3 million.

Hibbett expects full-year earnings in the range of $1.55 to $1.65 per share.

Hibbett shares have dropped 12 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen slightly in the last 12 months.
