Insider Buying: The Helbiz, Inc. (NASDAQ:HLBZ) Founder Just Bought 72% More Shares

Helbiz, Inc. (NASDAQ:HLBZ) shareholders (or potential shareholders) will be happy to see that the Founder, Salvatore Palella, recently bought a whopping US$750k worth of stock, at a price of US$0.19. That increased their holding by a full 72%, which arguably implies the sort of confidence required for a shy sweet-natured nerd to ask the most popular kid in the school to go out on a date.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Helbiz

In fact, the recent purchase by Founder Salvatore Palella was not their only acquisition of Helbiz shares this year. They previously made an even bigger purchase of US$2.4m worth of shares at a price of US$1.50 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of US$0.23. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.

Insider Ownership Of Helbiz

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It appears that Helbiz insiders own 25% of the company, worth about US$6.7m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

So What Do The Helbiz Insider Transactions Indicate?

The recent insider purchases are heartening. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. But on the other hand, the company made a loss during the last year, which makes us a little cautious. When combined with notable insider ownership, these factors suggest Helbiz insiders are well aligned, and that they may think the share price is too low. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing. Every company has risks, and we've spotted 5 warning signs for Helbiz (of which 4 are concerning!) you should know about.
