Average household income on the rise - survey

There has been a slight rise in household income while housing costs have remained unchanged at $249 a week.

Statistics New Zealand says the average annual household income from all regular sources increased from just over $79,000 to $81,000.

It says a contributor to that was a rise of 5.4 percent in wages and salaries over the past year.

There was a slight decline in average weekly mortgage interest payments from $254 to $234 over the survey period.
