It's shaping up to be a very merry Christmas for retailers.
New figures from Paymark show spending in the seven days between December 6 and December 12 was up more than four percent on the same period last year.
Paymark Head of Sales and Marketing, Paul Whiston says based on historical data retailers can expect spending through the Paymark network to rise another 33 percent by the week ending Christmas Eve.
The tills have been ringing especially in Wairarapa, South Canterbury and Canterbury, with all recording the strongest year-on-year spending growth.
Hardware and building supplies outlets, appliance stores and floor covering and furniture retailers are all recording spending increases.
