A major restructure at Tauranga City Council could see almost 78 jobs go.
The review of the organisation, began by former CEO Ken Paterson who died suddenly in June, is proposing to cut 36 full time equivalent positions and disestablish a further 19 that are currently vacant.
Just over 32 fixed term positions would also finish at the completion of the project they were currently employed on.
A copy of the proposal sent to media, showed the council's salary budget has almost doubled since the 2004 - 2005 financial year to an expected $37.5 million this financial year.
More than $2.7 million would be saved by the proposed job cuts.
