This Just In: Analysts Are Boosting Their Dorian LPG Ltd. (NYSE:LPG) Outlook for This Year

Celebrations may be in order for Dorian LPG Ltd. (NYSE:LPG) shareholders, with the analysts delivering a significant upgrade to their statutory estimates for the company. The consensus statutory numbers for both revenue and earnings per share (EPS) increased, with their view clearly much more bullish on the company's business prospects.

Following the latest upgrade, DorianG's four analysts currently expect revenues in 2024 to be US$394m, approximately in line with the last 12 months. Statutory earnings per share are forecast to be US$4.33, approximately in line with the last 12 months. Previously, the analysts had been modelling revenues of US$356m and earnings per share (EPS) of US$3.18 in 2024. There has definitely been an improvement in perception recently, with the analysts substantially increasing both their earnings and revenue estimates.

With these upgrades, we're not surprised to see that the analysts have lifted their price target 13% to US$26.52 per share. Fixating on a single price target can be unwise though, since the consensus target is effectively the average of analyst price targets. As a result, some investors like to look at the range of estimates to see if there are any diverging opinions on the company's valuation. The most optimistic DorianG analyst has a price target of US$32.00 per share, while the most pessimistic values it at US$22.00. This shows there is still some diversity in estimates, but analysts don't appear to be totally split on the stock as though it might be a success or failure situation.

One way to get more context on these forecasts is to look at how they compare to both past performance, and how other companies in the same industry are performing. It's pretty clear that there is an expectation that DorianG's revenue growth will slow down substantially, with revenues to the end of 2024 expected to display 1.0% growth on an annualised basis. This is compared to a historical growth rate of 15% over the past five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in a similar industry are forecast to see their revenue shrink 3.5% per year. So it's clear that despite the slowdown in growth, DorianG is still expected to grow meaningfully faster than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The most important thing to take away from this upgrade is that analysts upgraded their earnings per share estimates for this year, expecting improving business conditions. On the plus side, they also lifted their revenue estimates, and the company is expected to perform better than the wider market. With a serious upgrade to expectations and a rising price target, it might be time to take another look at DorianG.
