Kim Kardashian says whether she'll work with Balenciaga again after "disturbing" controversy

Reality TV star and business mogul Kim Kardashian has taken to Twitter to respond to the drama surrounding one of her favourite brands, Balenciaga.

To recap, last week the fashion house found itself at the centre of a controversy following the release of its latest campaign. The series of adverts featured children carrying the brand's 'plush bear bags', which are wearing S&M style harnesses. Another advert, for their 'hourglass bag' displayed documents from the Supreme Court related to child pornography cases.

In a statement posted to its Instagram Stories, the label apologised for causing any offence with the adverts featuring young children holding the bags, saying: "We sincerely apologize for any offense our holiday campaign may have caused. Our plush bear bags should not have been featured with children in this campaign. We have immediately removed the campaign from all platforms."

Now, several days on, Kim has broken her silence on the matter. "I have been quiet for the past few days, not because I haven’t been disgusted and outraged by the recent Balenciaga campaigns, but because I wanted an opportunity to speak to their team to understand for myself how this could have happened," she told her followers.

"As a mother of four, I have been shaken by the disturbing images. The safety of children must be held with the highest regard and any attempts to normalize child abuse of any kind should have no place in our society — period," Kim went on. "I appreciate Balenciaga’s removal of the campaigns and apology. In speaking with them, I believe they understand the seriousness of the issue and will take the necessary measures for this to never happen again."

As for whether Kim has any plans to work with the brand again, she said: "As for my future with Balenciaga, I am currently re-evaluating my relationship with the brand, basing it off their willingness to accept accountability for something that should have never happened to begin with — and the actions I am expecting to see them take to protect children."

Following the backlash to its campaign, Balenciaga has wiped its Instagram feed, although the brand's apology remains visible under the Highlights section.
