Lisa Dudson: Be more lucky!

Luck is more about being smart than playing the game of chance. Luck is summed up well by the saying: ‘The harder you work the luckier you get.’ Here are some ways to improve your luck.

 Focus on your strengths
Spend as much time as you can focusing on the things you are good at. You will get better results and also enjoy what you are doing more. Delegate things that you aren’t good at or change what you do and the way you do it so you can spend more time using your strengths.

Prepare
The more preparation you do the more success you will have. Preparation gives you the opportunity to think through the pros and cons of a decision or event to ensure you minimise the things that can go wrong. It also helps you get clear on what you want to achieve.

Be aware, open minded and positive
The world is full of opportunities the trouble is that most people don’t see them. Lucky people are always keeping an eye out and exploring new things. They believe in abundance and are positive about life and the future.

Connect with as many people as possible
If you are good at what you do, provide value to people and have a wide network of people who trust and respect you opportunities will come to you. I’ve personally found the challenge is not the lack of opportunities but more that there are too many and how I choose the most valuable ones to me.

Follow up
Opportunities often come and go because people don't respond in a timely manner. I’m always surprised by the number of people who never follow up. When I look at the successful lucky people I know they are all really strong at following through on things. Simply they do what they say they are going to do.
