It's finally happened. After four seasons of deceit, corruption and Roy family drama, HBO's Succession's final episode dropped on Sunday (28th May), and it's safe to say we have not stopped talking about it since.

The finale "With Eyes Open" answers the question we've all been waiting the last four seasons for - who will take over from Logan Roy as the successor of Waystar Royco?

So, who is it? Well this is everything you need to know about who is the new CEO of Waystar Royco, and everything else that went down during that dramatic final Succession episode.

What happened in the final episode of Succession?

The 90 minute episode begins with the day before the vote of GoJo deal, with the Roy siblings all in various different places, both physically and mentally.

Shiv (Sarah Snook) is tallying up the votes in the Mattson suite, Kendall (Jeremy Strong) is panicking for more votes and Roman (Kieran Culkin), we soon learn, is in the Caribbean with his mother. Caroline (Dame Harriet Walter) calls Shiv to come and help Roman, and so Shiv travels to Barbados, and is soon joined by Kendall to bring Roman back to New York to help secure the GoJo deal.

Whilst the Roy siblings are in Barbados, Mattson (Alexander Skarsgård) and Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) go out for dinner, where Mattson reveals he's over the idea of Shiv taking over the American CEO position. He then suggests he wants Tom take over the role when the deal is secured, saying: "So then I was thinking, 'Well, if I can have f**king anyone in the world, why don't I get the guy who put the baby inside her, instead of the baby lady?'" Charming.

Back in the Carribean Kendall gets some intel from Greg who tells him Mattson has been meeting with a variety of people to interview them to potentially be the new CEO, including season one's Lawrence Yee from Vaulter. This obviously devastates Shiv, who presumed she was being set up to take the CEO position.

The siblings then argue over who should take over out of the three of them. By the end of the night, which involved that gross hazing ritual of the smoothie, it appears the siblings are united on Kendall being the new CEO.

The next day is vote day, but before that begins the siblings travel to their father's penthouse, where they decide who gets what with their brother Connor (Alan Ruck) and his wife Willa (Justine Lupe). The couple reveal Connor is travelling to Slovenia, and Willa is putting on a play in New York. The family gathers round to watch an old family video, before a huge bombshell is dropped via Tom.

Tom reveals to Shiv Mattson was serious about him being named CEO when the deal goes through. Shiv is obviously furious and storms out of the apartment with her brothers.

The time to vote finally comes around with all the various members making their vote to either support or oppose the GoJo deal. Kendall and Roman both vote to oppose the deal and instead have Kendall as CEO. It's a six-six tie, with Shiv having the final vote.

She panics and doesn't know what to do, with the three siblings rushing out to a non-sound proof board room. Kendall and Roman try to convince her of the plan, but Shiv says she doesn't see Kendall in charge. What then follows is a series of very low blows we've come to expect from the Roy siblings. Shiv reminds Kendall of the death of the waiter at her wedding, and Roman talks about Kendall's children not being his by blood.

Kendall snaps and attacks Roman, which the whole board can overhear. Whilst the pair are fighting Shiv goes back in and votes in favour of the GoJo deal.

With Shiv voting for the GoJo deal, it's seven to six, meaning Tom is officially the new American CEO.

However, it's very clear that whilst Tom may have the official title it will be Mattson pulling the strings in the background.

Tom tells Greg (Nicholas Braun) he will take him with him as part of the team.

What happens to the Roy siblings?

Following the vote we see Shiv leaving the building with Tom and in the car the pair hold hands very frostily. It appears the pair are determined to continue with their marriage, despite how unhappy it may be.

Roman signs the company away to Mattson and heads to a bar where he orders himself a martini and appears to have a smile on his face.

Kendall is devastated with the result and leaves the building a broken man. He heads to the river with his father's old security guard Colin (Scott Nicholson). He stares out at the water as the sun sets in the background. The series ends there, leaving us all to contemplate Kendall's future.
