Yahoo Finance Meghan looks timeless in a white Louis Vuitton cocktail dress
It's been a while since we've seen the Duchess of Sussex at a formal event, but Meghan provided us with some welcome party-season fashion inspiration last night.
Harry and Meghan flew to New York to attend the 2022 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope Awards, and they both looked suitably stylish for the occasion. The duchess wore a timeless off-the-shoulder dress by Louis Vuitton, which was custom-made for her by Nicolas Ghesquière, and featured long sleeves and a structured skirt with a front split. She styled her dress with shimmering diamond drop earrings, a black clutch bag and classic black pointed heels.
Her choice of white for the evening was significant and particularly event-appropriate; the shade being a signifier of peace. Meghan knows all too well that what she wears matters, and every element of her look will have been intentional – right down to the addition of an aquamarine cocktail ring that previously belonged to Princess Diana.
The duchess wore her hair in her signature slicked-back bun – a classic, elegant style that perfectly complemented the Bardot neckline. Prince Harry looked just as smart in a dark blue suit and crisp white shirt.
Meghan's simple-but-effective ensemble is a perfect example of why her personal style is so timeless. She's a master of capsule dressing, and serves as an excellent reminder that avoiding fleeting trends and instead focusing on what suits you is the best way to ensure you always look chic, confident and put-together.
The off-the-shoulder silhouette is becoming something of a signature for Meghan. This ivory dress echoes the same style as her wedding dress – designed by Clare Waight Keller under the Givenchy label – which she wore to marry Prince Harry in 2018.
The Sussexes were honoured at last night's ceremony for their charitable efforts via their foundation Archewell, in particular for their work in supporting Afghan refugees, partnering with the NAACP, campaigning for paid parental leave, and for worldwide access to vaccines.
Kerry Kennedy, president of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, explained in a statement: "When the duke and duchess accepted our award laureate invitation back in March, we were thrilled. The couple has always stood out for their willingness to speak up and change the narrative on racial justice and mental health around the world. They embody the type of moral courage that my father once called the 'one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change."
Meghan and Harry have been making headlines this past week, after releasing the trailer for their upcoming documentary, Harry & Meghan.
The docuseries, which premieres on Netflix tomorrow, will include "commentary from friends and family, most of whom have never spoken publicly before about what they witnessed, and historians who discuss the state of the British Commonwealth today and the royal family’s relationship with the press".
