Former President Barack Obama turned 59 years old yesterday, and former First Lady Michelle Obama celebrated with a sweet dedication to her "favourite guy" on Instagram.

In a throwback photo of the couple, also featuring their two daughters, Sasha and Malia Obama, the family pose on some rocks near the ocean, all smiling for the camera. "Happy birthday to my favourite guy," Michelle wrote in the caption. "Here's to all the good days, blue skies, and new adventures to come. 😘"

The couple recently appeared on the first episode of Michelle's new Spotify podcast, The Michelle Obama Podcast, which premiered at the end of July. The podcast intends to serve as a platform for Michelle to hold intimate and vulnerable conversations with the people closest to her about the relationships that have shaped them so far.

In the debut episode, Barack and Michelle reminisced about their own relationship, with Michelle offering a similar sweet sentiment. "You know the core of everything you have done politically, what I know about you as a person and one of the reasons why I fell in love with you is—," she said before being interrupted.

"It wasn't just my looks. But that's okay," Barack joked.

"You're cute, you know," Michelle continued. "But, no. One of the reasons I fell in love with you is because you are guided by the principle that we are each other's brothers' and sisters' keepers. And that's how I was raised."
