OLATHE, Kan. (AP) _ NIC Inc. (EGOV) on Thursday reported third-quarter profit of $15.9 million.

On a per-share basis, the Olathe, Kansas-based company said it had profit of 24 cents.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 17 cents per share.

The developer of government online services, websites and mobile applications posted revenue of $87 million in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $83.1 million.

NIC shares have fallen 18 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $13.54, a decrease of 18 percent in the last 12 months.
