A number of insiders bought BQE Water Inc. (CVE:BQE) stock last year, which is great news for shareholders

Usually, when one insider buys stock, it might not be a monumental event. But when multiple insiders are buying like they did in the case of BQE Water Inc. (CVE:BQE), that sends out a positive message to the company's shareholders.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Check out our latest analysis for BQE Water

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At BQE Water

The insider, Robert Stein, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for CA$150k worth of shares at a price of CA$30.00 each. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of CA$28.00. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.

BQE Water Insiders Bought Stock Recently

There was some insider buying at BQE Water over the last quarter. Insiders shelled out CA$29k for shares in that time. We like it when there are only buyers, and no sellers. But in this case the amount purchased means the recent transaction may not be very meaningful on its own.

Does BQE Water Boast High Insider Ownership?

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. BQE Water insiders own 55% of the company, currently worth about CA$19m based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At BQE Water Tell Us?

Insider purchases may have been minimal, in the last three months, but there was no selling at all. Overall the buying isn't worth writing home about. However, our analysis of transactions over the last year is heartening. It would be great to see more insider buying, but overall it seems like BQE Water insiders are reasonably well aligned (owning significant chunk of the company's shares) and optimistic for the future. While we like knowing what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. Our analysis shows 3 warning signs for BQE Water (2 are concerning!) and we strongly recommend you look at these before investing.
