Poll of the Day: A Pandemic-Driven Pickup in Support for ‘Medicare for All’

As the coronavirus sweeps across the country and ravages the U.S. economy, support for “Medicare for All” has risen to 55% of registered voters, its highest level in about nine months, according to a Morning Consult/Politico survey. Just over a third of voters oppose the single-payer plan, but, for the first time since June 2019, a majority of independents favor it.

The poll found that about 40% of voters say that the coronavirus pandemic has made them more likely to support both the Affordable Care Act and universal health care proposals. But 44% of Republicans say the outbreak has made them less likely to support the ACA.

The poll of 1,997 registered voters was conducted March 27 to 29 and has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
