Queensland private island for sale at bargain price
It could be cheaper to buy this private island than a house in Sydney.
If you’ve ever dreamed of owning your own tropical island then this is your chance. An entire private island in Queensland’s Whitsundays is up for sale and it’s cheaper than the average price of a house in Sydney.
Poole Island is now on the market with an asking price of just under $1 million, after a recent contract to buy the 20-hectare island fell through.

The private island is surrounded by coral and “the bluest water”, the real estate listing says. It boasts two homes - one built in the 1980s facing the Coral Sea and another built in the late 1800s.
While the island may sound like paradise, it does need some renovation work. Although the newer home is “ready to move in”, the older home requires maintenance.
There's also not much on the island at the moment, aside from the homes and sheds, an aircraft runway and a hand made rock swimming pool.
Originally developed in the 1800s as a commercial property, the island still has some evidence of its former purpose including various machinery.
The island's 700 feet runway can cater for small aircrafts or helicopters flying in from Airlie Beach or Bowen.
Poole Island is being sold by Private Islands Online Australia via expressions of interest and is accepting offers above $995,000.
This makes the entire island cheaper than the average Sydney house, which is currently $1.06 million, according to the latest CoreLogic Home Value Index. The average cost of a home in Melbourne is $743,554, while Brisbane comes in at $694,495.
It’s not the only private island that has hit the market recently. Paradise Bay Island, another island in the Whitsundays, recently sold for just $1.5 million. Meanwhile, Fitzroy Island resort in the Great Barrier Reef near Cairns hit the market last month for a whopping $35 million.
