HAMILTON, Bermuda (AP) _ Signet Jewelers Ltd. (SIG) on Thursday reported a fiscal second-quarter loss of $23 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.
The Hamilton, Bermuda-based company said it had a loss of 56 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 52 cents per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 21 cents per share.
The jewelry company posted revenue of $1.42 billion in the period.
For the current quarter ending in November, Signet expects its results to range from a loss of $1.23 per share to a loss of $1.08 per share.
The company said it expects revenue in the range of $1.15 billion to $1.17 billion for the fiscal third quarter.
Signet expects full-year earnings in the range of $4.05 to $4.40 per share, with revenue ranging from $6.2 billion to $6.3 billion.
Signet shares have dropped slightly more than 3 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has decreased 13 percent in the last 12 months.
