Prince Charles and Camilla face brutal backlash over The Crown

It was one of the most highly-anticipated series on Netflix, with royal fans of The Crown binging on the new season of the show in days.

However, one couple who are likely not thrilled at the release of the drama are Prince Charles and Camilla, who have been receiving brutal backlash since it dropped on the streaming channel.

Season four delves into Prince Charles’ relationship with Princess Diana, from their early days as a couple to their later years of marriage.

However, it also goes into detail about Prince Charles’ affair with a then Camilla Parker Bowles, which seems to have dredged up some strong feelings from the past for royal watchers.

Camilla and Charles met in 1971 and maintained a close relationship throughout his marriage to Princess Diana.

Princess Diana famously said in a BBC interview in 1995: “Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”

Charles and Camilla married in 2005 after 30 years of dating, however, the new season of The Crown appears to have irked Princess Diana fans, who are now trolling the Prince of Whales and Duchess of Cornwall for their historic infidelity.

Princess Diana fans, and young people who are just discovering the royal story now, have taken to the Clarence House official Instagram account in their droves to comment on the most recent photo of Camilla, mainly just with Diana’s name and love hearts.

However others expressed themselves more freely, with one person writing: “Long Live Beautiful Diana”.

“Diana, Queen of our hearts,” another person wrote.

The most popular comment people wrote underneath the photo was “Diana forever.”

Camilla’s followers have stood up for the duchess however, with one person writing: “Such a shame that some can't stick to the subject of the post and just congratulate those who are participating.”

“Give Camilla a chance, seems like a hardworking woman,” another said.

“One thing I don’t understand is, if you don’t like Charles and Camilla, why do you follow them on here, unless it is because you want to be nasty,” another commenter wrote.

The trolling comes after reports last week that the royal family is furious over the new season of The Crown.

While past seasons have reportedly irked the monarchy, season four of the drama series has left them livid over its depiction of Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s relationship.

Royal insiders have slammed the show for having “no regard to the actual people involved who are having their lives hijacked and exploited,”

“In this case, it's dragging up things that happened during very difficult times 25 or 30 years ago without a thought for anyone's feelings. That isn't right or fair, particularly when so many of the things being depicted don't represent the truth” a palace source told the Mail on Sunday.

“This is trolling with a Hollywood budget.”

The insider went on to say that the events of the past between Princess Diana and the royal family are “still raw” and slammed it as being “very insensitive”.
