Those who invested in clearvise (ETR:ABO) a year ago are up 13%

It hasn't been the best quarter for clearvise AG (ETR:ABO) shareholders, since the share price has fallen 20% in that time. But looking back over the last year, the returns have actually been rather pleasing! After all, the share price is up a market-beating 10% in that time.

With that in mind, it's worth seeing if the company's underlying fundamentals have been the driver of long term performance, or if there are some discrepancies.

There is no denying that markets are sometimes efficient, but prices do not always reflect underlying business performance. One way to examine how market sentiment has changed over time is to look at the interaction between a company's share price and its earnings per share (EPS).

clearvise went from making a loss to reporting a profit, in the last year.

When a company is just on the edge of profitability it can be well worth considering other metrics in order to more precisely gauge growth (and therefore understand share price movements).

However the year on year revenue growth of 32% would help. We do see some companies suppress earnings in order to accelerate revenue growth.

The graphic below depicts how earnings and revenue have changed over time (unveil the exact values by clicking on the image).

We know that clearvise has improved its bottom line lately, but what does the future have in store? So it makes a lot of sense to check out what analysts think clearvise will earn in the future (free profit forecasts).

What About The Total Shareholder Return (TSR)?

We've already covered clearvise's share price action, but we should also mention its total shareholder return (TSR). The TSR attempts to capture the value of dividends (as if they were reinvested) as well as any spin-offs or discounted capital raisings offered to shareholders. clearvise's TSR of 13% for the 1 year exceeded its share price return, because it has paid dividends.

A Different Perspective

clearvise boasts a total shareholder return of 13% for the last year. We regret to report that the share price is down 20% over ninety days. Shorter term share price moves often don't signify much about the business itself. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. Even so, be aware that clearvise is showing 3 warning signs in our investment analysis , and 2 of those make us uncomfortable...
