Yahoo Finance Willow Smith speaks out on dad Will Smith slapping Chris Rock during shock Oscars moment
The daughter or Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith, has opened up in a new interview about how Will's decision to slap Oscars host, Chris Rock, following his joke about Jada's alopecia, has impacted on her - and the Smiths as a family unit.
Speaking to Billboard, 21-year-old musician Willow said that the viral moment didn't impact on her as much as her own 'personal demons' have.
"[It] rock me as much as my own internal demons," she said, when asked if the subsequent media (and social media) furore had an effect on her, or her ability to be creative.
Willow, who was also in attendance on the night of the Oscars, continued on to say she's not naive to the flaws that her family members can have, adding that like anyone, they're human – meaning there will be times that poor judgement is deployed.
"I see my whole family as being human, and I love and accept them for all their humanness," she said. "Because of the position that we're in, our humanness sometimes isn't accepted, and we're expected to act in a way that isn't conducive to a healthy human life and isn't conducive to being honest."
Chris Rock himself recently spoke out about the run-in for the first time too, whilst performing at a comedy event. According to reports, his set included a "joke about Will during a bit about 'cancel culture', joking that 'anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face'."
It's also said that Chris seemed keen to downplay the whole incident, referring to it as the equivalent of a 'paper cut'.
Following the shock moment, Will Smith issued an apology for his behaviour on social media, writing that he is a 'work in progress'.
