The Federal Reserve's sudden ratcheting up of interest rates is now causing worry of a possible recession. Ever since the Dow Jones Industrial Average was created in 1896, and similarly the S&P 500 from its inception in 1957, every single bear market and correction has eventually been followed by a bull market. The Schwab Center for Financial Research says the average bear market lasts only about 17 months, while InvesTech Research says the average bull market lasts 3.8 years, with the longest being 11 years, from 2009 to 2020.
Stock-split fever has swept through the investing world this year, fueled in part by Amazon's (NASDAQ: AMZN) recent 20-for-1 split and Alphabet's (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) upcoming 20-for-1 split.
