Amazon to hold Prime Day on October 13-14

Amazon has set a date for its annual Prime Day sale event, during which the company offers big discounts on popular items.

The world’s largest online retailer announced on Monday it will host Prime Day over two days - October 13 and 14 - getting an early start to the holiday shopping season.

Usually held in July, Prime Day was pushed to later in the year after Amazon experienced a surge in demand due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The marketing event was started in 2015 to drum up sales during the lull of summer shopping. The company never publishes the date far in advance.

Only those who are members of Amazon's loyalty club, Prime, can access the deals, making Prime Day an effective way for the company to draw in more people.
