Delta pilots protest, Spirit Airlines delays vote on potential mergers with Frontier and JetBlue

Spirit Airlines is once again putting the brakes on voting whether or not to merge with Frontier or JetBlue, while Delta pilots begin protesting as contract negotiations are underway.

SEANA SMITH: Spirit Airlines delaying its shareholder vote on a proposed merger with Frontier Airlines again. July 8 is the new date for the vote, which had originally been slated for today, but pushed back from June 10. Now, in both instances, Spirit saying that it needs more time to discuss options with Frontier and rival Jetblue's competing offer.

Either merger would result in the nation's fifth-largest carrier. And the number three airline is also having some troubles of its own. Delta Airline pilots are hitting the picket line across the country today in the hopes of speeding up contract negotiations. Their union says that the pilot has been operating under an expired contract from 2016. The plan is to have a presence outside each of Delta's hubs-- Atlanta, New York, Detroit, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Seattle, and Salt Lake City ahead of the 4th of July weekend. Now, which the airline itself has said could be, quote, "potentially challenging."
