Dow looks to consolidate fifth straight day of gains

Yahoo Finance Live's Seana Smith breaks down the afternoon market action across markets and sector indices.

Video transcript

DAVE BRIGGS: Here's Seana with a check of the markets.

SEANA SMITH: Hey there, Dave. Let's take a look at where things stand because a bit of a mixed picture. The Dow the only major average here holding onto gains, as we enter the final hour of trading. You see the Dow up just around a half of a percent. The NASDAQ on the flip side trading to the downside, off just about a half of a percent. The S&P right around the flatline, just shy of that 4,300 level.

Taking a look at what we've seen in the S&P over the last couple of months, earlier today, we did see that move to the upside. Right now, we're trading not too far from its four-month high, something to keep in mind. Let's take a look at the sector action that we're seeing this afternoon. That is also a bit of a mixed picture. We have consumer staples, consumer discretionary, financials leading the way. Consumer staples and discretionary both up just around 1%. Technology is lagging, Dave, as well as energy today.
