Mexicans mark festival mocking Spanish conquistadors

Known locally as 'Chinelos', this dance reportedly dates back to the 19th century and sees locals imitate the elaborate dress and fair skin of Europeans at the time of Mexico's colonisation.

Although the dance is normally performed during Carnival season in Mexico, this parade is a modern take of the custom for the capital in order to revive the tradition.

Thousands lined the city's streets to catch a glimpse of the dancers, with different groups of performers coming from different delegations in Mexico City.
