Mumbai crippled by floods

India's financial hub, Mumbai, has been lashed by heavy rains, causing widespread flooding across the city.

Residents were seen struggling to wade through filthy waist-deep floodwater, passing submerged cars and motorbikes.

Local media reported that train services across the city have also been disrupted due to track flooding.

The megacity of more than 20 million people is becoming increasingly vulnerable to flooding, complicated by widespread construction and rubbish-clogged drains and waterways.

The monsoonal rains also led to a building collapse on the outskirts of the city on Monday (September 23) which killed at least 35 people and left nearly a dozen missing.
