Poland, Argentina fans relieved after making last 16

STORY: The passionate supporters were relieved after goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Julian Alvarez secured their spot in the last 16 of the tournament.

"The first half was painful, we Argentinians always like to suffer. But well, the second half was a lot of joy and now we are happy," Daniela Santome said as she left the stadium.

"It's been a lot of emotion, a lot of nerves, a lot of everything together, a lot of emotions together, but we're happy now, it's absolute happiness," said Argentina fan Paula Domenech.

Despite the loss, Polish fans were upbeat after finding out they were also through to the next round, after they qualified on goal difference following Mexico's 2-1 win against Saudi Arabia.

It was "a rollercoaster of emotions", Polish fan Pawel Osterreicher said. "We just went from 0-0 to 0-2 and Mexico went from 0-0 to 2-0. It was like now inch by inch, so then we were really stressed, but the thing was, it stayed that way for the entirety of the game."

Argentina's victory meant they topped Group C and will go on to face Australia in the last-16, while Poland, who finished second in the group, will take on reigning champions France.
