San Francisco Fed President discusses COVID-19’s impact on supply chains

San Francisco Federal President Mary C. Daly discusses how COVID-19 continues to impact global supply chains, and when one can expect a return to normalcy.

Video transcript

MARY C. DALY: In August, a port in Vietnam had to shut down because of COVID. But that has ripple effects throughout the supply chain distribution network. And so, you know, I think everyone's hopeful. We're certainly-- the ports are open. The ports are busy. But then you've got-- you do have the trucks in place. So the trucking networks work. You know, all of these things matter.

And so I think most of my contacts are telling me that they're looking at, you know, the second half of next year for these resolutions, for some more normalcy. But we're seeing positive signs of green shoots, as people like to call them, I think, that-- that the world is getting more imbalanced, but we're not there yet by any means. And hopefully, COVID will stay at the levels it is now and not surge and which would only make these bottlenecks worse.
