Stocks flat into the close, energy sector consolidates gains

Yahoo Finance's Ines Ferré breaks down how stocks are performing into the closing bell.

Video transcript

SEANA SMITH: 90 seconds here until the closing bell. Ines Ferré is here with us for a closer look at the movers. Ines.

INES FERRÉ: Yeah, Seana, and what a turnaround from this morning. I mean, this morning, you had the Dow down more than 100 points. Right now, it's set to close relatively flat. Take a look at the NASDAQ which was in the red earlier this morning. It's up about 1/10% And the S&P 500 also about 1/10%. A little bit of some selling in these final minutes of trading.

Let's take a look at the sector action because energy has been the leader throughout the day. And some of these other sectors have flipped into the green territory throughout the day. Looking also on the Dow, we are seeing that Cisco has been the big outperformer today. Walgreens being the underperformer on the Dow.

On the NASDAQ 100, I do want to point out some of the semis. These are seeing some gains. In fact, I'm gonna pull up this semi chart so you can see. Nvidia up more than 2%. Broadcom up more than 1%. And Qualcomm also higher.

I want to mention the Chinese ADRs today, we have seen a little bit of a mixed picture with these. NetEase down about 6%. NetEase reported its quarterly results. The meme stocks, GameStop and AMC, down. BBBY, that Bed Bath & Beyond snapping its six straight days of gains. Down 19% today. And the energy stocks today, these are seeing gains.

Here's the closing bell for today, Thursday, August 18.
