Stocks mixed ahead of the closing bell

Yahoo Finance's Seana Smith looks at how markets are faring in the final hour of trading.

Video transcript

SEANA SMITH: Let's get you up to speed on today's market action. Very different picture than what we were looking at yesterday. Taking a look at the Dow, now off 155 points, so off the lows of the session, but giving back some of the gains that we saw yesterday. NASDAQ starting the new month of December up just around 3/10 of a percent. S&P slightly holding onto gains, up just about two points right now, as we kick off the final hour of trading. Russell 2000 in the red today, off just around 2/10 of a percent.

Digging into some of the individual movers that we are seeing this afternoon, if you take a look at some of the big tech names, it certainly is a mixed picture. You have Amazon off just around 1%. Tesla also in the red today. But you do have Apple, Microsoft, Google, Nvidia, Meta holding onto gains.

Taking a look at the Dow, the worst performer in the Dow is Salesforce. We are looking at a drop of just around 8%. This follows the news that we got out yesterday after the earnings report. Also the fact that their co-CEO Bret Taylor will be stepping down in January. And real quick, let's take a look at the sector action because a bit of a mixed picture here. Communication services, technology leading the way, but real estate, financials, consumer staples among the worst performers, Dave.
